GOAL:
Replace old bridge. |
The Emmber Lane bascule bridge plays a major role in
the revitalization of downtown Milwaukee, WI. In its raised position,
it allows for free flow of barge and boat traffic on the Menomonee
River. Closed, it allows surface traffic to cross the river freely
into the valley. |
 |
CHALLENGE:
Coordination of work and utilities. |
The schedule for completion of the bridge was very ambitious. Removal
of the old bridge and construction of the new one had to be coordinated
with preserving existing fiber optic lines, water mains, storm and
sanitary sewers (one with drop shafts) and replacement of a major
72" storm sewer. All the work was done under traffic to local
businesses. |

REWARDS:
|
Zenith Tech was selected for the WisDOT 2000 Outstanding Structure Award for
its work on this bridge. The award recognizes aesthetics, function,
and contribution to Milwaukee's revitalization and contractor performance.
