GOAL:
Strong visual appeal. |
The pleasing appearance of a cast-in-place concrete project is fully as important as its structural strength. For this reason, form liner construction is often used to achieve the appearance of natural cut stone or cobblestone. The process involves using textured forms for placed concrete, then staining and sealing the finished structure to guard against discoloration and vandalism. |
 |
CHALLENGE:
Achieving natural consistency. |
The concrete structures for the new Lake Aterial represent a new level of achievement for the experienced crew at Zenith Tech. The project was based on an ambitious aesthetic standard which called for several types of concrete textures. Massive abutments would be cast to resemble heavy quarry stone. Other elements would mimic smaller stone, and sound reduction walls were specified with a fluted treatment to add visual distinctiveness. Colors and surface finishes were required to match throughout, adding consistent quality to the project's visual appearance. |
 |
SOLUTION:
Approved attractiveness. |
The finished Lake Arterial successfully combined handsome appearance and functional strength, winning final approval and public praise from local and state governments. Color and shape stayed consisent, and blended pleasingly with bridge and landscape elements from other contractors. The form liner surfaces exceed the applicable industry standards for strength, while remaining consistent in texture and finish.
